Hot Snack Island: On the Trail
What it is.
My decently long running OSE game, arcade style D&D, in a version of the Hot Springs Island setting. Racist halfling empire took over the continent and extends its colonial arm, a shipwreck scatters survivors on a lost island. The island has additional stuff on it including a lot more dungeons. I don't like the HSI style dungeons, so I'm just adding my own. Dungeons are fun.
As a result, the players have encountered few factions so far and have not chosen sides. So it goes.
Two groups meet every week for an hour. One at 7 AM Monday, one at Noon Thursday. As a result, some amount of information control is necessary.
What happened.
The Thursday group, represented by a dwarf, a human, a hireling and a water imp* retainer are have stumbled on REDACTED being choked to death by strange vines they have encountered before. They leverage REDACTED to destroy the vines and with modified Reaction rolls REDACTED.
Then they head down the slope of the volcano and hit a Point of Interest at REDACTED where they have a run in with an earth imp who hates their water imps guts (and vice versa). A brief slap fight ensues before REDACTED jumps in and the earth imp flees.
They investigate REDACTED and find REDACTED, then follow a trail of drag marks to a nearby hill with obsidian pillars. Descending they find the Temple of Tranquility where they hire a quartet of new adventurers including an orc. I make the mistake of declaring that orcs are (ugh) a magically created (ugh) servant race (uuuuugh) derived by halflings from human stock. It's perilously easy to drag in the fucking Saruman/Tolkien borderline eugenics stuff and I wish I had thought more and in fact, I'm going to just fix that. Thank god I can just do that.
Then the Monday group, who had rented space from the owner of the temple showed up. I've set up an asynchronous chat and will see how that goes. They have previously talked all sorts of shit but we'll see what they do now that they are actually coterminous and co-located.

What I learned.
- Split but close timelines is a pain to manage but in this case it has resulted in some cool shit.
- Reaction rolls rule, very generative of content and information.
- I need to change some of the HSI tables to make survivors more common. I want outsiders to be rare here, and that's an easy fix.
- The eugenics stuff is so pernicious and easy to fall into.
